Cement conveying or handling of further bulk solids in the cement industry

Especially in the cement industry, high energy costs for
the production of cement along with increasingly tough
competition force companies to lower their expenditures.
Thus, the use alternative combustibles of or cheap
secondary such as shredded domestic or industrial waste,
tires, animal meal, scrap wood, and other biomass is
gaining importance in the cement industry, e.g. for use in
rotary furnaces. Tube chain conveyors are often used as
flexible and space-saving conveyor systems for the interplant transportation of these bulk materials as well as cement conveying.

Tube chain conveyors are mechanical conveyors and are classified as continuous conveyors.  The basic components include a tensioning and a drive unit, the tube for the conveying and the return side and an endless conveyor chain which is equipped with evenly spaced conveyor discs. The bulk material to be transported is fed through the inlet onto the conveying path and is then hauled by the conveyor discs that are attached to the driven chain. At the end of the conveying path or outlet, the bulk material is discharged.

Lowering operational and energy costs

Compared to other cement conveying technologies, tube chain conveyors can be operated using very little energy and their low system and operational costs contribute to cost savings. Due to the simple conveying process, this conveyor requires no expensive fixtures and only minimum control engineering since the bulk material flow is controlled via the chain speed or bulk material feed.

The low chain speed results in a long service life and minimum wear on the conveyor system. Maintenance and repair work can be kept at a minimum so that the conveying process, and thus the production process, is not subject to longer interruptions. Only the chain tension and those components that are subject to wear, such as the conveyor discs, should be checked regularly through the maintenance openings.

With the three-dimensional layout and the different customizable tube diameters and components it is possible to design virtually any kind of haul way, regardless of its direction. Tube chain conveyors are very easy to handle and thanks to its modular design they can be perfectly adapted to meet the on-site requirements. Unlike other conveyors they can easily be used for vertical conveyance and reach 100% of their calculated capacity.

Flexible and dust-tight conveyance of bulk materials

Tube chain conveyors are a suitable means of transportation for many applications in the cement industry, e.g. the conveyance of

  • Natural raw materials used for the production of cement
  • Corrective materials for sintering
  • Intermediate products from the production of cement
  • Combustibles for firing the oven
  • Filter dust discharge.

Tube chain conveyors can, therefore, transport not only the already mentioned secondary combustibles but also various other bulk materials, such as calcium and aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, iron ore, plaster, anhydrite, pigments, rocks, sand fly ash, limestone, or cement clinker.

Due to the enclosed design, the bulk materials are transported in a dust, gas, and pressure tight manner. This keeps the environment and plant clean and none of the bulk material gets lost. The enclosed design also keeps moisture out and thereby prevents any possible reactions of the bulk material.

Tube chain conveyors are used wherever bulk material quantities of up to 60 m³/h are transported over a distance of up to 60 m horizontally or 40 m vertically. They can convey highly abrasive, toxic, explosive, adhesive, or even chemically aggressive bulk materials. They are shock-resistant to explosion pressure and ignition puncture proof and can be designed in accordance with ATEX.

Thanks to the extensive know-how and continuous further development by Schrage, the tube chain conveyor system has been refined in a way that thousands of systems are now installed worldwide.
